Kindred Partners Inc., a Toronto-based cannabis brokerage serving the adult recreational use market, has announced the appointment of Curtis MacKenzie to the role of Executive Vice President and General Manager.
Kindred is a wholly owned subsidiary of Breakthru Beverage Group.
The move is effective February 4, 2022.
In this role, MacKenzie will oversee all aspects of the company’s business operations, including the market commercial sales activities and growth strategies for its supplier and provincial board partners. He will lead a team that remains focused on channel management including educating customers, providing product knowledge and capitalizing on growth opportunities, the company says.
Kindred operates separately from its sister company, Breakthru.
“With Curtis’s deep understanding of the Canadian cannabis marketplace and strong relationships with suppliers and provincial board partners, we have the utmost confident in his ability to drive this business forward,” says E. Lloyd Sobel, EVP and chief commercial officer, Breakthru Beverage Group. “For this position, we sought a versatile leader and strategic thinker with cross-functional experience and a track record of success to help drive Kindred forward. We have no doubt Curtis is that person.”
Prior to assuming the EVP/GM role, MacKenzie served as Kindred’s National Director of Trade Development. In that role, he developed the company’s trade programming, managed budget allocations and served as a member of Kindred’s Leadership Team, where he contributed to the broader strategic development of the business, including new business development, policy development and implementation.
“I’m excited for this opportunity and believe deeply in this team and its ability to deliver value for all our partners,” says MacKenzie. “Kindred has an inclusive and performance-driven culture and I look forward to leveraging the considerable skills and insights of this team to bring the business to new heights.”
