U.S. multi-state cannabis operator AYR Wellness has opened the first medical cannabis dispensary within Miami city limits. Having opened on Friday, January 10, the new dispensary is located at 3160 N. Miami Avenue.
“Miami has an active medical cannabis community, but it remains largely underserved from a retail perspective,” says Jamie Mendola, co-chief revenue officer at AYR Wellness. “Miami-Dade County, with a population of approximately 2.7M, currently has 43 licensed medical cannabis dispensaries, yielding a population-to-dispensary ratio of about 63,000 to one.”
AYR Wellness saw a need for additional medical cannabis dispensaries in the area and seized the opportunity. After nearly four years of planning and development, the Miami location finally opened, with a grand opening date to be announced in the near future.
Serving the Miami medical community
There are nearly 900,000 active medical cannabis patients registered in Florida, according to the Florida Office of Medical Marijuana Use, and growing each week.
“We recognized that there was a lack of safe and regulated medical cannabis for registered patients within Miami city limits, and our team remained committed to addressing this gap,” Mendola says.
AYR Wellness has 67 dispensary locations in the Florida market, with additional locations in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Massachusetts, Nevada and New Jersey. As the organization’s dispensary footprint continues to grow, so will its ability to serve communities across the U.S.
