While not as well-known as 4/20, Green Wednesday is quickly becoming a premier cannabis holiday and a vital day of business for dispensaries. Taking place November 27 each year, this holiday may still not be as popular as 4/20, but it’s a great sales boost for cannabis businesses.
Green Wednesday in Ohio
With Ohio’s recent adult-use market launch, Green Wednesday was a success for some dispensaries, marking the state’s entry into one of the cannabis industry’s top retail holidays. Major operators like AYR Wellness and Curaleaf reported significant sales growth as consumers stocked up before Thanksgiving.
Curaleaf’s overall Green Wednesday sales doubled current Wednesday baselines. Increases were primarily driven by surges in traffic and average transaction value. Florida, Pennsylvania and New Jersey drove a majority of the increases from last year’s baseline.
As far as categories go for Curaleaf, flower saw reductions in sales to last year while edible and vape categories saw increases. Edibles significantly increased from last year (by +2% points).
AYR Wellness’s Green Wednesday sales data saw a 91% increase vs. an average Wednesday in November 2024. There was also a 4% increase vs. last year’s holiday. Unlike Curaleaf, AYR Wellness’s most popular product was flower during the holiday.
